In 1992 Travaux d’impression, the first complete catalogue of books illustrated by Pierre Alechinsky, was published. This work, produced jointly by Michel Butor and Michel Sicard, faithfully retraced over forty years of the painter’s involvement with books. At the time, Michel Sicard was asked to assist in organising an exhibition at the Wittockiana showing the wide range of media and techniques employed by Alechinsky: etchings, lithographs, prints, placards and posters, logos and various objects. A friendship with the artist developed, unfortunately difficult to sustain as a result of Michel Wittock’s voluntary exile to Rome.
